KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah on Friday announced Rs5 million each for families of more than two dozen pilgrims killed in a bus crash in Iran.
At least 35 Pakistani pilgrims were killed and fifteen others injured after a bus carrying met an accident in Iranian Province of Yazd on Tuesday (August 20).
“On the instructions of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has announced Rs5 million in compensation for families of those who tragically lost their lives in the road accident in Iran, along with Rs1 million for the injured,” the CM House said in a statement.
Most of the passengers belong to Larkana, Ghotki and other cities of Sindh.
The crash occurred on Tuesday night in the central Iranian province of Yazd, according to the state-run IRNA news agency.
The pilgrims were on their way to Iraq via to commemorate Arbaeen, which marks the 40th day following the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain.
According to an official handout, the bodies of the deceased and 15 of the 25 injured persons who were discharged from the hospitals, were brought back to Pakistan.
