Sindh extends e-challan system to two new cities

Sindh has expanded its e-challan system to Hyderabad and Sukkur, marking a major step toward stronger traffic enforcement across the province.

Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar said that driving licence checks are underway across the province. He admitted that computer system errors may appear at times, yet he stressed that the government is committed to improving the overall traffic management system. He questioned the criticism being raised and said that efforts to strengthen the system should be appreciated. At the same time, Karachi Traffic Police released new data showing that more than Rs710 million were collected from e-challans in just one month. The detailed report revealed that over 93000 e-challans were generated during this period, highlighting the scale of traffic violations across the city.

Among the violations, not wearing seat belts remained the most common offence. The report recorded 57,541 such cases, which resulted in fines exceeding Rs570 million. Motorcyclists also continued to break rules, as 22,257 riders were fined for not wearing helmets, with penalties crossing Rs111 million. In addition, overspeeding by dumpers, trailers and water tankers was monitored through tracker systems, leading to 1,188 challans. Private vehicle drivers were also issued 2,699 challans for overspeeding, while 3,102 were penalized for signal violations.

The city further reported 1,278 challans for fancy number plates and 1,178 for tinted windows, with both categories accounting for more than Rs29.4 million in fines. Other violations included stop-line breaches with 611 challans and 426 cases of wrong-way driving. As the report concluded, Traffic Police urged all citizens to follow road rules. They emphasized that compliance ensures safer roads and protects not only the drivers themselves but everyone traveling around them.
