LAHORE – The massive increase in driving license fees has been challenged in Lahore High Court as an individual named Rana Ali Hasnain has filed a petition through his lawyer.
Caretaker Punjab Government had issued yet another notification for an increase in driving license fees. However, the notification may be suspended as a petition has been filed by an individual named Rana Ali Hasnain in Lahore High Court.
Rana Ali Hasnain alongside IG Punjab and members of the Punjab government have been named in the petition submitted at the Provincial Apex court.
The petition states that it is illegal for the caretaker government to make this decision and that the caretaker government has no authority staying within the law to make such decisions as well.
Rana Ali Hasnain stated that the Caretaker Government should only run day-to-day matters and does not have the authority to make decisions that can affect the citizens in the long-run.
He further requested the court to withdraw this notification and issue the old license prices as well for the betterment of the citizens.
Driving license fees have not just increased but they went from a mere Rs 60 to Rs 500 already and another increase is not a good idea.
Furthermore, the renewal fee was paid at the time of license expiry first, but the new notification states the renewal fee will now be paid annually till the license expires which is a major blow for the citizens.
