Thousands of goats to be provided to farmers in punjab

In a major step towards the development of the livestock and dairy sector, the Punjab government has announced a Rs500 million project to provide 5000 high-quality male goats and rams to livestock breeders.

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the program will provide high-quality livestock to farmers, boosting the region’s meat yield. The initiative is being implemented by the Livestock and Dairy Development Department, and applications are now open for interested farmers.

Farmers have until April 30 to apply for the program. The first phase of the initiative will be rolled out in six districts across two divisions: Dera Ghazi Khan Division (D.G. Khan, Muzaffargarh, Layyah, Rajanpur) and Sargodha Division (Bhakkar, Khushab).

Farmers in these districts will receive animals with superior genetic potential, which are expected to improve overall meat production. Additionally, the program offers free vaccinations, training on animal care, and support in breeding, feeding, and disease control to reduce animal mortality and improve productivity.Eligibility criteria for applicants include owning a herd of 20 to 40 female animals, being a registered livestock farmer on the 9211 system, and being a resident of the relevant district.

The government will cover 70% of the cost, with farmers contributing the remaining 30%.To ensure transparency, the selection process will be conducted through e-balloting managed by the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB). Applications must be submitted to designated desks at the Deputy Directors of Livestock offices in the concerned tehsils.

This program is expected to significantly contribute to improving meat production and animal husbandry practices in Punjab, benefiting both the farmers and the local economy.
