Two police officers were shot dead in Lakki Marwat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday when unidentified armed men targeted them on Begu Khel Road near Mela Shahab Khel.
The attackers opened fire on the officers who were riding a motorcycle, leaving them critically injured before fleeing the scene. Rescue teams and security forces quickly arrived and shifted the injured to Government City Hospital, but both officers could not survive. The slain policemen were identified as Samiullah and Asad Khan, residents of Begu Khel Town in Lakki Marwat. According to officials, they were on their way to the police lines for duty when the ambush took place. Security personnel later launched a search operation in the area to track down the attackers.
This tragic incident comes shortly after a separate terrorist attack in Chilas, where two personnel of the Gilgit-Baltistan Scouts were martyred and another injured. The assault occurred at a GB Scouts check post in the Hudur area when terrorists opened fire. The injured were rushed to Chilas Hospital, where Naib Subedar Khushdad from Nagar and Havaldar Ashraf from Shigar succumbed to their wounds, while the third scout remains in critical condition.
The back-to-back attacks highlight the rising threat of terrorism targeting security personnel in different parts of the country. Authorities have intensified efforts to track down the culprits and prevent further incidents. Both attacks have spread grief among the local communities, as the slain officers and scouts were carrying out their duties to ensure public safety. Security forces remain on high alert as operations continue to locate those responsible for these deadly assaults.
