Richard Grenell, Donald Trump’s nominee for special envoy, stated in an interview that Marco Rubio, Trump’s designated Secretary of State, is prepared to discuss Pakistan’s missile program.
Additionally, Grenell criticized the Biden administration, arguing that its recent measures are insufficient compared to its efforts over the past four years. These remarks come after the US imposed sanctions on four Pakistani entities accused of supporting the country’s ballistic missile program.
The sanctioned entities include the National Development Complex in Islamabad and three Karachi-based firms Akhtar & Sons, Affiliates International, and Rockside Enterprises. US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller alleged that these organizations were instrumental in advancing Pakistan’s missile capabilities.
Previously, US Deputy National Security Advisor John Finer highlighted Pakistan’s nuclear capabilities and its development of long-range ballistic missiles, asserting that these could target areas beyond South Asia.
In response, Pakistan’s Foreign Office condemned the sanctions, describing them as biased. It defended Pakistan’s strategic programs, stating that they are aimed at ensuring peace and stability within the South Asian region.
Grenell also discussed the Trump administration’s positive relationship with Pakistan’s former prime minister, drawing attention to similarities between the two leaders as political outsiders. He voiced support for the former Pakistani leader’s release from prison, suggesting parallels between accusations faced by him and Trump.
Furthermore, Grenell accused the US State Department of diverting attention from what he believes is the more pressing issue: the former Pakistani prime minister’s imprisonment. These developments highlight escalating tensions between the US and Pakistan, fueled by disagreements over strategic policies and political dynamics.
