US woman stranded in Pakistan seeks $3000 weekly from Karachi man

A 33-year-old American woman Onija Andrew Robbins made headlines at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport on Wednesday after she caused a ruckus refusing to board her flight back to the United States.

Stranded at Karachi Airport for a week due to her expired visa, Robbins made her way to Memon’s residence in the Garden West area of the city. There, she demanded $3,000 per week and insisted on becoming a Pakistani citizen, all while sitting in the building’s parking lot and waiting for Memon.

Despite repeated efforts by US Consulate officials and airport authorities to persuade Robbins to return to the United States, she remained resolute about staying in Pakistan. In an interview, Robbins stated that she would leave only if she didn’t receive the money within the next week.

Robbins had traveled to Karachi after forming an online relationship with Memon, but his family rejected the marriage proposal, leaving her stranded with no support. As tensions grew, Robbins staged a sit-in outside the building, which alarmed residents, prompting safety concerns as crowds began to gather outside.

To defuse the situation, SDPO Clifton Faiza Sodhar met with Robbins and arranged for her transfer to a women’s police station for her safety. Authorities also noted that Robbins appeared mentally unstable. However, she insisted on returning to the Garden West area.

Meanwhile, Memon has been taken into custody by intelligence agencies, and his family has vacated their home, complicating the already tense situation. The ongoing saga has drawn both local and international attention, shedding light on Robbins’ emotional distress.
