Water level drops in Punjnad, surges at Guddu Barrage

Sindh’s Information Department, in its latest water data of rivers and barrages, reported a decrease in the inflow and outflow of the river at Punjnad.

Floodwater levels in the Indus River continue to rise, putting pressure on barrages and causing serious damage in several districts. At Punjnad Headworks, the water inflow and outflow were recorded at 575195 cusecs. According to official data, the Indus River at Guddu Barrage saw an inflow of 544658 cusecs and an outflow of 514051 cusecs. The barrage control room confirmed an increase of 31,996 cusecs in the past 24 hours, warning that the water level may rise further in the next day.

The situation has already worsened in Kandhkot district, where the katcha area is completely inundated. Standing crops of cotton, rice, and other produce spread over hundreds of acres have been destroyed, leaving farmers in distress. At Sukkur Barrage, the inflow was measured at 470580 cusecs, while the outflow stood at 422400 cusecs. Meanwhile, at Kotri Barrage downstream, inflow was recorded at 262509 cusecs and outflow at 254354 cusecs.

Adding to the crisis, floodwater caused a breach in Zamindari Bund near New Manjath in Naushahro Feroz district. The breach allowed water to enter Khadim Mangnejo and Akbar Brohi villages, flooding homes and damaging agricultural lands. Residents in the katcha belt have become stranded due to the rising waters and limited accessibility. Many families remain confined to their homes, while their crops and livestock face heavy losses. Local communities have appealed to authorities for immediate rescue operations and relief measures. With river levels still rising and more breaches possible, the risk of further devastation remains high. Authorities are closely monitoring barrages, but the impact on agriculture and rural populations is already severe.
