Second suspect in Gulab Devi Hospital rape case on the loose

In yet another horrific crime, a woman was allegedly gang-raped in front of her husband by armed robbers in Faisalabad’s Sandal Bar area, police confirmed on Thursday.

The couple was returning home from Agriculture University Hostel on March 25, 2025, when they were ambushed by armed assailants in Chak No 62 JB Channan near a motorway bridge. The attackers robbed them of Rs800, a mobile phone, and the woman’s ID card before tying the husband in a sugarcane field and assaulting the woman.

During the assault, one of the attackers called a third accomplice, who arrived on a motorcycle and joined in the crime. The victim’s husband later searched for the culprits before reporting the incident to the police the next day. Authorities have conducted a medical examination of the woman and sent DNA samples for forensic analysis.

A case has been registered under robbery and sexual assault charges, and a police search operation is underway. Geofencing of the crime scene led to the detention of three suspects, according to SSP Investigation, while further investigations continue.

This case bears a striking resemblance to an August 2024 incident in Faisalabad’s Chak No. 34 JB, where armed robbers also assaulted a woman after looting her husband. Similarly, in 2020, a widely condemned motorway gang-rape case in Gujjarpura involved two robbers assaulting a mother whose car had run out of fuel.

Following public outrage over such heinous crimes, Pakistan has debated harsher punishments for sexual violence. While lawmakers considered public hangings for child abuse and murder cases, concerns over international trade agreements halted the proposal. Conviction rates for sexual assault cases remain below 3%, fueling demands for urgent legal reforms.
