A couple from Gujranwala, who reportedly eloped to Karachi, was found murdered near Clifton’s China Port in what police suspect to be an honour killing.
Police identified the victims as Sajid Masih and Sana Asif, both in their 30s. According to initial investigations, the two had left their village in Gujranwala on July 15 to get married against their families’ wishes. Sana’s brother filed a kidnapping FIR at Tatlay Aali Police Station, naming Sajid and four others. However, evidence suggests the couple left willingly.
The bodies were discovered a day earlier near the Clifton China Port with clear signs of torture. Boat Basin Police confirmed both were shot dead, and two 9mm bullet casings were recovered from the crime scene. DIG Raza confirmed that a suspect, Waqas, has been taken into custody for interrogation. Karachi police are in contact with Gujranwala police, and may send a team to Punjab if further investigation is needed.
As no family members have come forward to claim the bodies or provide statements, the case will be pursued under state prosecution. Preliminary findings suggest the involvement of a close relative in the killings. Police are continuing the investigation and say they are committed to ensuring justice in the case. This incident once again highlights the dangers faced by couples who choose to marry for love against societal norms.
