The Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection has announced the Zakat Nisab for the year 2025, setting the threshold at Rs179689.
Zakat will be deducted from savings, profit and loss-sharing, and similar deposit accounts if the balance meets or exceeds the Nisab limit on the first day of Ramadan 1446 AH. However, current accounts will not be subject to Zakat deductions.
According to an official notification to banks, Zakat deduction will take place on March 1 or 2, depending on the moon sighting. Ramadan is expected to begin on March 2, 2025. As per the Zakat and Ushr Ordinance 1980, accounts with balances below the Nisab limit on the first day of Ramadan will be exempt from deductions. Banks and financial institutions will implement the process as per government directives.
Account holders are advised to check their balances and ensure compliance with the rules before the deduction date.
