Rawalpindi bans modified motorcycles over safety concerns

Authorities have enforced a total ban on converting motorcycles into loader-rickshaws across the Rawalpindi division due to safety and traffic-related concerns.

The new orders ban the use of motorcycles fitted with metal grills or wooden frames, often used as makeshift loaders. The crackdown is being enforced across the division. The Secretary of the Regional Transport Authority (RTA), along with officers from the Excise Department and Traffic Police, has been directed to take immediate action.

According to the orders, only company-manufactured loader rickshaws and Qingqi rickshaws are allowed for transporting goods or passengers. Officials stated that modified motorcycles are unsafe, especially on busy roads, highways, and commercial zones, as they increase the risk of accidents. The Transport Department has made it clear that any such vehicle found violating the rule will be seized on the spot. These motorcycles will only be returned to their owners if the added loader attachments are removed. The release will be made under judicial custody.

Authorities have also warned of strict action for repeated violations. Transporters and drivers have been asked to follow the new instructions to avoid legal trouble.
