Defence Minister Khawaja Asif clarified his recent remarks regarding war with India, stating that his words were misconstrued and taken out of context.
He explained that he gave this statement during an interview with an international media outlet, where he said the next few days are important due to rising tensions. He stated that the region is under serious threat, with military forces deployed on both sides of the Pak-India border. He assured that Pakistan is mentally prepared for any conflict and its armed forces are fully ready to defend the country. Khawaja Asif warned that if India takes any aggressive step or crosses Pakistan’s geographical boundaries, a strong and crushing response will be given. He emphasized that Pakistan has the strength to reply effectively and will not hesitate to do so.
The defence minister also said that Pakistan had offered an impartial investigation into the Pahalgam incident, but India has not responded to this proposal. He said Pakistan wants to expose the baseless claims being made under the cover of this attack in occupied Kashmir. He reiterated that any misadventure from India will be met with a powerful reply and Pakistan has already informed the international community about its peaceful stance and willingness for fair inquiry.
Regarding the Indus Waters Treaty, he said India has been trying to exit the agreement for a long time. He made it clear that any hostile act from India regarding the treaty will also get a strong response. The matter will be discussed as a top priority in the upcoming National Security Committee meeting.
