WhatsApp is launching a new security feature to combat spam messages and harmful links.
The “Safety Screen” feature helps users confirm the legitimacy of links before clicking on them, making it easier to spot potentially dangerous links.
The 2019 vulnerability that allowed spyware to be installed over the phone was one of the security incidents that prompted WhatsApp to release this update in an effort to improve user safety.
When receiving a message from an unknown contact, the Safety Screen feature will give users additional details about the sender, including their profile and country code.
The sender can then be reported or blocked by users. In a subsequent version, the whole public will be able to access this feature, which is now accessible in the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.16.6.
Furthermore, WhatsApp is improving the link search function that lets users look for text messages or links inside the app. Users will be able to check the legitimacy of links and make wise selections before clicking thanks to this enhancement.
These upgrades show WhatsApp’s commitment to client wellbeing, despite the fact that the stage has been enduring for its security and information gathering approaches.
The safety Screen highlight is expected to be accessible in forthcoming updates, however the exact delivery date has not been revealed.
Joining the WhatsApp beta program on the Google Play Store allows users to test the functionality ahead of time.
