A Pakistani woman has tied the knot with the son of a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader.
Mohammad Abbas, the son of BJP leader Tahsin Shahid, married Lahore’s Andleep Zahra. The groom had applied for a Pakistani visa but couldn’t obtain one due to ongoing political tensions between Islamabad and New Delhi.
The situation became more complicated when the bride’s mother, Yasmin Zaidi, fell ill and was admitted to an ICU in Pakistan. In light of these challenges, Shahid chose to conduct the wedding ceremony online.
On Friday night, Shahid gathered with Barati at an imam bara in Uttar Pradesh to participate in the online nikah with the bride’s family joining the ceremony from Lahore.
BJP MLC Brijesh Singh Prishu and other guests attended the wedding and congratulated the groom’s family.
The nikah took place days after India’s Minister for External Affairs S. Jaishankar attended a high-level meeting of the heads of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (aka SCO Summit) in Islamabad.
