School holidays announced by Punjab Govt due to worsening smog

As winter approaches, once again the areas of Punjab have been gripped by intense smog especially areas of Lahore. The caretaker government had taken the initiative of shutting schools and offices down for Thursday, Friday and Saturday for areas of Lahore.

Lahore has been suffering from Smog for some time now. The Air Quality Index of Lahore hit an overwhelming 500 value which is the highest level of polluted air in the entire world. Most of the air in Lahore is not characterised as breathable air. Pollution has been worsening for the last few years and now it has reached its peak.

In a conference, the Chief Minister of Punjab announced that schools and offices will be closed from Thursday to Sunday as  he also announced that November 9, 2023 will be an official holiday. Moreover, he also stated that all marketplaces, cinemas, and parks will be closed on the weekend alongside all restaurants.
