Umar Hayat indicted in Sana Yousuf murder case

The accused Omar Hayat has been indicted in the murder case of social media influencer Sana Yousuf.

The Islamabad court has indicted 22-year-old TikToker Hayat, also known as Kaka, in the murder case of 17-year-old influencer Sana Yousuf. The teenager, who had over a million followers across social media platforms, was shot dead inside her home in Sector G-13/1 on June 2, 2025.

Police registered a murder case at Sumbal police station under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code. During the latest hearing, Additional Sessions Judge Muhammad Afzal read out the charges to the accused. Hayat pleaded not guilty, calling the allegations false and insisting he did not commit the crime. He also denied accusations of stealing Sana’s mobile phone. The court adjourned the case until September 25 for further proceedings.

According to initial investigations, Sana’s parents were not at home at the time of the incident. Her father was at work, her mother was at the market, and her younger brother was visiting relatives in Chitral. Her aunt, who was present in the house, told police that the suspect had come to meet Sana.

She recalled overhearing her niece telling him to leave, warning that there were cameras around. Moments later, Hayat allegedly opened fire, shooting her twice in the chest. Police described the killing as a cold-blooded crime, claiming Hayat murdered Sana after she repeatedly rejected his proposals. The case has drawn widespread attention, highlighting both the opportunities and dangers faced by women who gain fame on platforms like TikTok.

Sana’s tragic death has sparked calls for justice and stronger protection for women in Pakistan’s digital space. The upcoming hearings are expected to shed more light on the case as the court continues to examine evidence and testimonies.
