Cell phone service will be unavailable for four hours near Peshawar examination centers during the upcoming medical and dental college entrance exams (MDCAT).
Commissioner Riaz Mehsud announced the decision to prevent any potential misconduct during the tests.
According to reports in the local media, in an effort to stop cheating during the September 22, 2024, Medical and Dental Colleges Admission Test (MDCAT 2024), the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government planned to turn off cell phone service.
In a meeting with Peshawar DC, the registrar of Khyber Medical University, and top police authorities, Peshawar local government officials reached the decision.
Six testing centers will be established in Peshawar, the province capital, where about 19,000 candidates for medical school will take the exam. Admission to medical institutions in Pakistan and abroad is determined by the MDCAT, a paper-based test.
In this context, cell phone towers close to testing locations will be offline for a few hours. The PTA has been notified of this decision, and cell phone signal jammers will be put in the exam rooms.
No public meetings shall be held in close proximity to the centers under these regulations.
To maintain a smooth traffic flow throughout the exam, a traffic control strategy has been put in place. To discourage cheating, CCTVs will be placed both inside and outside the hallways, and each center will be overseen by a designated assistant commissioner.
