BISP opens 10 million bank accounts for beneficiaries

In the wake of lessening poverty, the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) has successfully opened ten million bank accounts for its beneficiaries.

Pakistan has rolled out a new direct payment system under the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP), aiming to provide transparent and secure financial aid to millions of families. Under this initiative, each eligible beneficiary will now receive Rs13500 directly into their bank accounts, without deductions or involvement of agents.

During a National Assembly Standing Committee meeting on poverty alleviation, chaired by MNA Lamm Ali Talpur, authorities shared progress on BISP’s banking integration. They revealed that one crore accounts have been opened in just four months as directed by the Prime Minister. At present, these accounts remain dormant but will be activated as soon as payments are dispatched.

Currently, six banks are linked with BISP, and efforts are underway to connect all banks through the One-Link system to streamline transactions across Pakistan. The Deputy Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan confirmed that beneficiaries will be able to withdraw funds from any active bank and also access standard services such as deposits and remittances.

Beneficiaries will, however, pay withdrawal charges ranging between Rs100 and Rs200, depending on the bank and method of transaction. Authorities stressed that this process will not involve agents, ensuring transparency and preventing misuse. The BISP Chairperson acknowledged that digital payments remain a challenge, especially for women, but emphasized that this reform is a major step toward financial inclusion. The program’s second phase, set to be completed in six months, will expand digital transactions nationwide.

This campaign is designed to benefit women and low-income families by making financial support accessible, transparent, and secure. Through banking integration, BISP aims to empower citizens and strengthen Pakistan’s move toward inclusive digital finance.
