Police in Faridabad arrested Neelam, a woman from Bihar’s Madhubani district, for killing her 18-month-old daughter on April 23 near Dheeraj Nagar.
The tragedy unfolded when two schoolchildren spotted the toddler’s body stuck in an iron mesh along a drain edge while heading home. Officers rushed to the scene, retrieved the body carefully, and sent it for post-mortem. In addition, investigators checked nearby CCTV footage, which captured Neelam carrying the child toward the drain before walking back alone.
This key evidence led police to detain her quickly. During questioning, Neelam confessed fully. She lives in Faridabad with husband Sanjay, who works for a private firm, and their six daughters the victim was the youngest. Furthermore, Neelam blamed extreme poverty and family stress for her actions. She said raising so many children overwhelmed her amid dire finances, pushing her to throw the girl alive into the drain.
Police spokesperson Yashpal Singh confirmed the arrest and ongoing probe. The family resides in a slum in Dheeraj Nagar, facing severe hardship. This heartbreaking case shocks the community. It highlights struggles of poor families but draws strong condemnation. Authorities aim to uncover full details soon.
