TOKYO – A monstrous Earthquake of magnitude 7.6 on the Richter scale hits Central Japan. The government of Japan has issued Tsunami warnings for coastal areas such as Niigata, Tokayama, and Ishikawa.
A tsunami had already hit the coastal areas with waves 1 metre height. Japan’s Meteorological Agency has issued an advisory of greater tsunamis for the coastal regions.
Hokuriku Electric Power had concerns about abnormalities caused by the Earthquake in their Nuclear Power Plants.
However, officials from the company state that as of yet the Nuclear power plants seem to be functioning normally.
They are monitoring the situation closely for any abnormalities as the outcome of a Nuclear power plant meltdown is catastrophic.
Kansai Electric Power also stated that they’re looking into their Nuclear Power plants to see if there have been any changes in Radiation readings after the earthquake.
However, as of yet conditions of plants seem to be normal.
A monstrous quake had hit Japan in 2011 which had caused Nuclear meltdowns in Fukushima due to which Japan closely monitors their plants now even after minor quakes.
As Japan lies on the fault line, it’s hit by minor earthquakes every now and then. The fault line, although inactive, moves several centimetres every year.
This shift in Tectonic plates causes minor quakes in Japan every now and then.
