Deadly Earthquake hits Nepal
According to sources, the death toll as of now has reached almost 150 with hundreds injured. Authorities suggest that the quake was so strong that it could be felt all the way to New Delhi. Nepal’s capital, Kathmandu has also witnessed the tremors. Nepal’s National Seismic Centre said that it was the strongest and most devastating earthquake that has hit Nepal since 2015. The American Seismic Centre has downgraded the Earthquake’s magnitude to that of 5.6 on the Richter scale while the German claim it to be a 5.5 on the scale.
Authorities unable to establish communication with remote areas
However, the real danger has not yet passed as authorities are still on high alert. They fear that the hilly areas in Nepal are still out of communications and are unable to contact us. This has led them to believe that they may have been hit much more severely than Jajarkot where the buildings collapsed. As of yet, no contact can be established between the hilly areas as authorities are still on the lookout and preparing for the worst as those areas were near the epicentre
In Jajarkot alone, hundreds of houses have collapsed and the citizens had to spend the night out. Major buildings across the city have been damaged while many of them fell and the remaining ones developed massive cracks. Electricity was knocked out as soon as the wave hit and till now the search and rescue operation has been continuing.
