Sources anticipate significant price relief for energy consumers due to the government’s successful tariff reduction agreements with Independent Power Producers (IPPs).
The Power Sector Task Force has finished reviewing Independent Power Producers (IPPs) and state-run power plants, Federal Minister for Power Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari said the Senate Standing Committee on Power earlier on Sunday.
“All relevant information about the IPPs has been given to the committee. Leghari stated, “We will soon be announcing to the public the good news regarding the IPPs.”
The Power Sector Task Force, headed by the Power Division Minister, has finished examining the rates of over 100 power plants, according to people with knowledge of the process. Negotiations have resulted in the phased closure of a number of IPPs and the provision of tariff reduction for consumers overall.
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has already submitted its suggestions, and the government will reduce needless taxes.
The sources also stated that a decision has been taken to lower the industrial sector’s special tariff rate.
The expected announcements aim to improve the overall efficiency of the power industry and lessen the financial burden on consumers. Stakeholders anticipate a more sustainable energy future for the nation as the administration strives to put these improvements into effect.
