Government announces free E-V bikes for eligible students

Federal government will provide free electric bikes to top-performing students across all educational boards in Pakistan, including the Federal Board, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced on Friday.

He said this move will help the country save fuel costs, protect the environment, and support local industries. During the session, the Prime Minister announced the launch of a new EV scheme for students. Under this scheme, high-achieving students from all educational boards, including the Federal Board, will receive free electric bikes. A special 25 percent quota has been set aside for female students. The Prime Minister also directed to increase Balochistan’s quota to 10 percent.

In addition to bikes for students, the government also plans to give electric rickshaws and loaders to unemployed citizens through soft, easy loans. This will help create job opportunities and promote the use of clean energy. The Prime Minister instructed concerned departments to quickly set up an ecosystem for EV production and repair in Pakistan. He emphasized that only good-quality and safe electric bikes, rickshaws, and loaders should be included in the scheme.

He also ordered a third-party audit of the entire process to ensure fairness and transparency. The poorest citizens should be given top priority in receiving benefits from this initiative. The meeting was informed that over 100000 electric bikes and more than 3,000 rickshaws and loaders will be provided under this scheme. Public awareness campaigns will also be launched to inform citizens about the government’s EV support program.

It was shared that four new battery-making companies are starting work in Pakistan, creating new business and job opportunities. The Prime Minister directed that the scheme should begin without delay.
