The federal government has taken action to tackle climate challenges by launching the E-Bike Scheme 2025 in Pakistan.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will officially inaugurate the scheme on August 14 during Independence Day celebrations. This new initiative aims to reduce fuel-based travel and support a more sustainable future. To make electric bikes affordable for the public, the government has allocated Rs9 billion in the current budget. Each bike will be subsidized by Rs65000, while the remaining amount will be covered through interest-free loans provided by banks. This will help reduce the financial pressure on citizens.
To ensure fairness and easy access, the registration process will be completely online. If the number of applicants exceeds the number of available bikes, a transparent balloting system will be used to select the beneficiaries. The government has set an ambitious target of having at least 2 million electric bikes on the roads by the year 2030. In addition to bikes, the larger plan includes the introduction of 53950 electric rickshaws, 99155 electric cars, 2238 electric buses, and 2996 electric trucks in the coming years.
Officials say this program reflects the government’s commitment to environmental protection, affordable transport, and modern technology. By shifting towards electric vehicles, the government also hopes to reduce pollution and save fuel costs for the country. Citizens are encouraged to stay updated through official channels and register online once the scheme opens.
