Kazakhstan seeks to Import 50000 tonnes of Potatoes from Pakistan

In a significant development, Kazakhstan has signalled strong interest in importing 50,000 tonnes of high-quality potatoes from Pakistan, the ministry of Commerce said on Wednesday.

Pakistan is set to begin potato exports to Kazakhstan following recent high-level talks between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the Kazakh president, marking a positive step for the country’s agricultural trade. According to the Ministry of Commerce, the export process is expected to be completed between April and June 2026.

Officials said that all technical and commercial consultations between the relevant authorities of both countries have already been finalized. As a result, Pakistani exporters are now prepared to supply quality potatoes that meet the standards and requirements of Kazakhstani importers. This coordination is aimed at ensuring smooth shipments and long-term trade cooperation.

Meanwhile, agricultural experts have welcomed the development, noting that Pakistan’s potato production has remained strong in recent years. They believe the country has enough surplus to meet domestic demand while also supporting exports. Therefore, shipments to Kazakhstan are expected to open a new and reliable market for Pakistani produce.

In addition, experts say the move will provide much-needed relief to local farmers. Despite good harvests, many growers have struggled to secure fair prices in the local market. Through exports, farmers are likely to receive better returns, which could improve their financial stability and encourage higher-quality production.

Furthermore, officials believe this agreement will help boost Pakistan’s overall agricultural exports. By entering new regional markets, the country can reduce dependence on limited buyers and strengthen its trade portfolio. The Kazakhstan deal is also seen as a sign of growing economic ties between the two countries. As preparations move forward, exporters and farmers remain hopeful that this opportunity will translate into sustainable income growth.
