KARACHI – Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport is likely to face disruptions as its main runway is scheduled for a month-long closure due to essential maintenance work.
The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) confirmed the temporary shutdown of the runway, which aims to address issues concerning detached rubber from aircraft tires. The closure will be in effect from April 4th to May 3rd, with maintenance operations scheduled on weekdays during specified hours.
Passengers are urged to stay informed about expected flight disruptions by contacting their respective airlines. A Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) has been issued to airlines to notify them of the runway closure. The airport has not officially notified expected flight disruptions but some of the flights might be shifted to other terminals though the confirmation in this regard is awaited.
During the main runway’s closure, flight operations will be redirected to the airport’s secondary runway to minimize disruptions.
According to the notification, the runway will remain closed from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Monday while for Tuesday, the closure would be from 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM. Moreover, on Wednesday, the runway would be shut from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM; on Thursday, it would be shut from 7:30 AM to 10:00 AM. Similarly, on Friday, the runway would stay closed from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM.
Meanwhile, Sialkot International Airport’s runway will also undergo maintenance from May 6th to May 18th, contributing to potential travel inconveniences during that period.
