Indian Army tank accident kills one, injures two in Rajasthan

During a training exercise in Sri Ganganagar district, Rajasthan, the professionalism of the Indian Army has once again been exposed.

An accident during a military exercise in India has resulted in the death of one soldier and injuries to two others when an armored tank sank while crossing the Indira Gandhi Canal. According to reports, the tank suddenly lost balance and plunged into the water within moments. Two soldiers were inside at the time; one managed to escape, while the other could not get out.

Police, the State Disaster Response Force, and Civil Defense teams launched a rescue operation that continued for several hours. Despite their efforts, the body of the trapped soldier was recovered later. The identity of the deceased has not been released by the Indian Army. The two injured soldiers were reportedly rescued and are receiving medical attention.

This incident is part of a series of recent accidents involving tanks in India. In June last year, five officers drowned when a tank fell into a river in the Ladakh region. Additionally, in October 2022, two officers died and another was seriously injured when a tank exploded during a firing exercise.

These repeated accidents have raised concerns about safety arrangements and the professionalism of the Indian Army during training exercises. Experts say that while military drills are essential, strict safety protocols and updated equipment are necessary to prevent such tragedies. Families of soldiers and the public have expressed worry over the risks faced during routine training operations. Authorities have promised a detailed investigation into the current incident to determine the exact cause and prevent future occurrences. Meanwhile, the army continues its exercises, emphasizing that safety measures will be reviewed and strengthened.
