Govt declares two public holidays

The federal government has declared two public holidays in December 2025 for citizens across the country.

These holidays are part of the official annual calendar, and people welcomed the announcement because it will give students, employees and families a short break before the new year begins. The two-day break will allow the public to rest, attend gatherings and spend quality time with loved ones.

December 25 is already marked nationwide every year to honour the birth anniversary of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. On the same day, the Christian community across Pakistan also celebrates Christmas. Since both important events fall on December 25, the entire country observes this day as a full public holiday. People use the day to attend ceremonies, visit places of worship, or take part in cultural and community activities.

The second holiday will be observed on December 26. This day has been set aside to give the Christian community more time to continue their Christmas festivities and participate in church services and family events. Schools, government offices and most private organizations will remain closed, allowing communities to celebrate comfortably without any work-related obligations.

Citizens have appreciated the decision, saying the holidays give people a chance to relax during the winter season and enjoy time with their families. Many families are planning small trips, while others will attend community events held in different cities. The extended weekend is also expected to increase activity in parks, shopping areas and recreational spots.
