Saudi Arabia has issued a new travel advisory restricting entry for Umrah visa holders after the 15th day of the Islamic month of Shawwal, according to a directive circulated by Saudi aviation authorities.
This rule, which took effect immediately, aims to manage the Hajj season more effectively. Airlines have been strictly told not to issue boarding passes to Umrah visa holders traveling after this date.
Violations of this order will result in legal action against both passengers and airlines under Saudi law. The sudden implementation has caused confusion, especially among travelers and airline staff.
Over 60 Umrah pilgrims are currently stranded in Saudi Arabia due to this directive. Many of them belong to the Jafar Khan Leghari area of Sanghar, which has strong community ties to Umrah travel. The issue arose when passengers of flight SV 700, scheduled to reach Karachi, were denied boarding at the last minute despite having boarding passes. The refusal happened due to limited capacity on the flight.
Even after 24 hours, no proper arrangements have been made for the return of these pilgrims. The stranded group includes elderly women and children, increasing the urgency of the situation. Frustrated by the lack of information and assistance, the pilgrims have started protesting.
Airport authorities have temporarily shifted the group to a hotel and assured that alternate flights will soon be arranged to bring them back home. However, delays and lack of communication have added to the distress of the pilgrims and their families.
Officials are now under pressure to resolve the issue quickly, as families in Pakistan await news of their loved ones. The situation highlights the need for clearer communication and better planning during the Umrah and Hajj seasons.
