Govt plans to build airport in AJK

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz-led federal government has decided to build an airport in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) on the demand of overseas Pakistanis.

A letter from British Members of Parliament of Kashmiri origin has come forward, urging Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to begin the airport project. Responding to this call, the Airports Authority in Islamabad has issued an advertisement seeking a consultancy firm to help initiate the project. According to the authority, eligible consultants can apply through the official tender process under the set rules.

Meanwhile, Islamabad is hosting the first-ever Overseas Pakistanis Convention, recognizing the important role of overseas Pakistanis in strengthening the national economy. Participants of the convention have been given the status of state guests.

The convention aims to bring overseas Pakistanis, government officials, and national institutions together on a shared platform. Various help desks from different government departments have been set up at the venue to offer services, support, and guidance in one place.

In a video message, Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis Chaudhry Salik Hussain reaffirmed the government’s commitment to solving the issues faced by overseas Pakistanis. He said their feedback and opinions would be welcomed during the convention.

Minister of State for Overseas Pakistanis Awn Chaudhry also praised the contributions of Pakistanis living abroad, saying they continue to play a major role in the country’s development and economy. He added that the hearts of overseas Pakistanis are always connected with their homeland.

The convention is expected to set a new direction in policy-making for overseas communities and push forward development projects like the proposed airport in AJK.
