There are as many as 13 routes of the electric bus service in Islamabad and it is expected that all buses would be brought on roads soon.
The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has been directed to deploy all 160 electric buses on various routes to benefit the citizens. Currently, around 70 buses are operational, but it remains unclear how many will actually be on the roads. The CDA has 16 charging stations, which are reportedly insufficient to meet the needs of the entire fleet.
To address this issue, a new depot is being built at Zero Point, where additional charging facilities will be installed to support the fleet. The buses are expected to operate on 13 different routes across the city, including major areas such as Faizabad, NUST Metro Station, Allama Iqbal Open University, Pak Secretariat, PIMS, Bari Imam, Police Lines, and others.
Environmental expert Muneer Ahmed has praised the initiative, emphasizing that the electric buses will significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions, contributing to a cleaner and healthier environment. He also commended the government’s efforts in promoting eco-friendly transportation solutions.
These efforts are in line with the ongoing push to improve public transportation, reduce pollution, and provide residents with more sustainable commuting options. The government hopes that by expanding the electric bus fleet and adding more charging stations, the city will move closer to achieving its environmental goals.
