BANGKOK – Businessmen and businesswomen from Japan are now granted visa-free entry to Thailand, in a move aimed at boosting the economy.
The Thai cabinet gave the approval to relax the visa rules though Japanese tourists already avail the facility. Deputy government spokesman Kharom Polpornklang confirmed that the Foreign Affairs Ministry had proposed this extension. The visa relaxation would be effective from January 1, 2024, until December 31, 2026.
The spokesperson elaborated that the extension caters to the convenience of Japanese business representatives, highlighting Japan’s significant role as one of Thailand’s primary investors and third-largest trading partners.
The official stressed the importance of the visa relaxation for Japanese individuals who also have business interests in Thailand.
Thailand has recently been embracing international visitors by relaxing visa regulations on a wider scale. Notably, the country waived visa requirements for travelers from India and Taiwan, aiming to woo tourists. Additionally, Thailand extended the operating hours of entertainment venues and clubs across various regions to enhance tourists’ enjoyment of the vibrant nightlife scene.

Drawing in millions annually, sometimes exceeding 30 million, the country remains among the world’s top tourist destinations. Meanwhile, Japan, with a population of approximately 125 million, is renowned for its harmonious blend of tradition and modernity. The country annually attracts an impressive number of tourists, often surpassing 30 million. Japan offers various appealing sites, including the bustling metropolis of Tokyo, known for its technological advancements. Tourists flock to Kyoto for its cultural richness, historic temples, and gardens. Other notable destinations comprise the stunning views of Mount Fuji, the ancient town of Nara, lively Osaka, and the serene landscapes of Hokkaido.
