ISLAMABAD – Aspiring international students can now retake any component of the world-famous language proficiency test named IELTS (International English Language Testing System).
The test comprises four components i.e. Listening, Writing, Reading, and Listening and students once appeared had to retake all the components to improve their score if they scored poorly on the first attempt.
However, those in Pakistan can now enjoy the liberty to only re-sit in one of the components of the exam. The IELTS test is mandatory for a majority of universities in the United Kingdom and even in Australia.
IELTS ‘One Skill Retake’ is available for both Academic and General IELTS and is currently available in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Faisalabad, and Gujrat; the facility would be extended to other centres soon.
Those who retake any component would have the option to choose whether they would like to use their old or new score for the skill test they retook.
Some scholarships including the ones offered by Japanese also make it mandatory to pass the exam though students faced difficulty in retaking the whole exam when they needed to improve only a single component.
The test is also expensive and the students who had to retake the exam faced the brunt due to inflation in the country and the devaluation of the Pakistani currency, dashing their dreams to study abroad.
It bears mentioning that IELTS is working with countries and organizations to accept the ‘One Skill Retake’ but presently, it is accepted by UK Visas and Immigration, the Australian Department of Home Affairs, the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency, and the list is growing.
