BISP phase II launched to support vulnerable families

The government has launched the BISP 8171 Phase-II, under which newly verified families will receive cash assistance of Rs13500 according to a district-wise schedule.

Authorities have also issued a district-wise payment schedule so families can check when payments start in their area. At this stage, each eligible household will receive Rs13500 to help them cope with rising inflation and basic expenses. The government has ensured that the payment system will remain fully transparent. Payments will be transferred directly, without deductions, and released only after biometric verification. This process aims to reduce fraud and ensure that the support reaches the rightful recipients.

Meanwhile, BISP has already opened ten million bank accounts for its beneficiaries. These accounts remain inactive for now and will be activated as soon as payments are issued. During a recent National Assembly Standing Committee meeting on poverty alleviation, officials briefed members on the progress of the banking system linked with BISP.

Currently, six banks are part of the programme, and work is underway to connect all banks through the One-Link system so beneficiaries can withdraw money easily. The State Bank’s Deputy Governor confirmed that BISP recipients can withdraw funds from any operational bank and also use regular banking services such as deposits and remittances.

However, beneficiaries will pay a withdrawal fee ranging from Rs100 to Rs200, depending on the bank and method they choose. Officials stressed that the payment process will not involve any agents to maintain transparency and prevent misuse. The BISP chairperson noted that although digital payments offer convenience, they still pose challenges, especially for women beneficiaries, and efforts are continuing to make the system easier and more accessible.
