Botched assault in Bannu ends with bomber dead

A suspected terrorist was killed on Tuesday when the explosive device he was carrying detonated prematurely on Doghoda Bridge in the Surani area of Bannu district.

The device, weighing between 8 and 10 kilograms, exploded before the suspect could plant it. Authorities say the IED appeared to be intended as a target against police, though investigators are also considering the possibility of a suicide attack. The explosion was heard in nearby areas, prompting a quick response from law enforcement and security teams. Fortunately, no other casualties or property damage were reported. Security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search and clearance operation. Forensic teams collected evidence, while investigators worked to uncover the suspect’s motives and potential links to militant groups.

Meanwhile, Pakistan security forces conducted two separate operations against Fitna-al-Khawarij militants in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, killing a total of 15 insurgents. An intelligence-based operation in Kulachi, Dera Ismail Khan, targeted militants hiding in the area. During the engagement, troops eliminated ten militants, including the group’s ring leader, Alam Mehsud.

Authorities emphasized that these operations are part of ongoing efforts to maintain stability and eliminate terrorist threats in the region. They also increased security measures across the district following the Bannu incident to prevent further attacks.
