Govt increases BISP allocations to Rs593bn

By the end of this year, 10 million people will be receiving benefits from the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), according to a statement made on Thursday by Senator Rubina Khalid, the program’s chair.

The quarterly Benazir Kafaalat installment would increase from Rs10,500 to Rs13,500 beginning in January 2025 following an announcement by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

She also announced the Benazir Skill Training Program, which would soon be available to eligible women and their families.

According to her, recipients of this program will be able to access employment prospects by receiving training that complies with both local and international standards. She said, “The program’s main goals are to empower deserving families economically and to improve their quality of life, as well as to make room for new deserving families to join.”

Like other international social safety programs, Rubina Khalid stressed that BISP offers extra financial assistance to qualifying families in order to help them with their everyday costs.

Asif Ali Zardari, she remarked, carried out the program, which was Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto (Shaheed)’s vision.

As per the President’s order, impoverished women in Pakistan receive recognition and economic empowerment when financial support under this initiative is extended to female family members of qualifying households.

While discussing other initiatives under BISP, Senator Rubina Khalid mentioned that under the Benazir Taleemi Wazaif initiative, children from deserving families are provided educational scholarships, contingent on 70% school attendance, with higher financial allocations for girls than boys.

During her visit to the BISP Gilgit office, Senator Rubina Khalid interacted with the deserving women and listened to their concerns, and instructed the BISP staff to address their issues promptly.

As part of a tree-planting drive, Senator Rubina Khalid also planted a sapling at the BISP Gilgit office.
