Deadly blast in occupied Kashmir claims nine lives

Nine people were killed and 31 others injured when seized explosives detonated inside a police station in occupied Kashmir, police said on Saturday, just days after a car explosion in Delhi claimed a dozen lives.

The tragic incident took place in Nowgam, where an accidental explosion occurred during the handling of explosives recovered earlier this week from Faridabad in Haryana. These explosives had been seized just hours before the deadly blast in New Delhi that killed 12 people. According to officials, samples from the recovered material were being sent for further forensic examination since Thursday, and the process required extreme caution due to the highly unstable nature of the material.

However, around 11:20 pm on Friday, the explosives accidentally detonated. The region’s director general of police, Nalin Prabhat, stated that the blast happened during routine handling and that any speculation about other causes was unnecessary. He confirmed that the victims included police officials, members of the forensic team, two crime photographers, and other personnel from the local administration. Their presence at the site indicated that the team was actively working on examining the sensitive material when the explosion occurred.

As a result of the blast, the police station building suffered severe damage, and nearby structures were also affected by the impact. Authorities have since secured the area and are continuing their investigation to understand the full extent of the damage.

This explosion comes only days after a powerful car blast in New Delhi killed at least 12 people and injured 30 others. The Indian government has labeled the New Delhi attack an act of terrorism, heightening security concerns across the country. Officials believe that both incidents highlight the dangerous nature of handling unstable explosives and the urgent need for tighter security and investigation procedures.
