Pakistan all-rounder Salman Ali Agha has addressed mounting speculation over his future as T20I captain following the national side’s premature exit from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.
Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka in their final Super Eight match of the ICC tournament; however, the victory was not enough to secure a place in the semi-finals. As a result, attention quickly shifted to the team’s overall performance and leadership decisions during the competition.
After the match, Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha accepted full responsibility for the team’s campaign. He stated that he made all major decisions in consultation with the coach and team management. Furthermore, he clarified that the selection process and final playing XI were decided collectively rather than individually.
Despite the win against Sri Lanka, Pakistan struggled in earlier crucial matches, which ultimately cost them a semi-final spot. Salman Ali Agha admitted that the team failed to handle pressure situations effectively. According to him, except for Sahibzada Farhan, the batting unit did not deliver consistent performances when it mattered most.
Meanwhile, questions have emerged about his future as captain. When asked whether he would step down, he said it would not be wise to make an emotional decision immediately after the tournament. Instead, he emphasized the need for careful reflection before announcing any final choice.
He confirmed that he will consult with cricket officials after returning home and make a decision within two to four days. Therefore, the upcoming announcement is expected to play a key role in shaping Pakistan’s cricket strategy moving forward.
