Government announces holiday for Shab-e-Barat

The Punjab government has announced a public holiday across the province on the occasion of Shab-e-Barat.

A formal notification has been issued in this regard by the Services and General Administration Department, confirming the closure of official institutions. All government offices will remain closed on Wednesday, February 4. In addition, autonomous and semi-autonomous bodies, government corporations, local councils, and all government and semi-government educational institutions operating under the Punjab government will also observe the holiday.

Furthermore, the holiday will apply uniformly across all districts of Punjab, ensuring that public offices and institutions remain closed province-wide. Authorities said the decision aims to allow citizens to observe Shab-e-Barat with religious devotion and ease. Meanwhile, the Punjab government has directed the Auqaf Department and other concerned institutions to make special arrangements in view of the expected large gatherings. Officials have been instructed to ensure proper management at mosques, shrines, and graveyards to avoid overcrowding and maintain public safety.

In addition, local administrations have been advised to coordinate with law enforcement agencies to ensure smooth traffic flow and provide security during the night. Emergency services are also expected to remain alert to handle any unforeseen situation. On the other hand, the Sindh government has also announced a holiday for educational institutions on the occasion of Shab-e-Barat. According to the School Education Department Sindh, all public and private schools across the province will remain closed on 15 Shaban.
