Food minister Rana Tanveer Hussain said on Friday the government was actively working towards reducing the taxes on milk.
During a recent meeting with a delegation from the dairy sector, key concerns were raised, with a strong focus on the taxation of milk. The minister assured the participants that the government aims to make milk either tax-free or subject to very minimal tax. He said that this step will directly benefit consumers and support small-scale farmers across the country.
Rana Tanveer emphasized that in many rural areas, selling milk is the main source of income for farmers. The government, he said, is committed to protecting the livelihoods of these farmers and ensuring that the dairy sector continues to grow.
He also shared plans to organize a national seminar soon, inviting all stakeholders to join hands in finding long-term and practical solutions for the issues faced by the dairy industry. This event will focus on strengthening the dairy supply chain, increasing milk production, and supporting farmers.
The minister reiterated that pro-farmer policies remain a key focus of the Ministry. He said the development of the dairy sector is crucial for the country’s food security and rural economy.
Efforts are being made to introduce reforms and financial support mechanisms that can uplift the sector and make milk more affordable and accessible to the general public. Good news on tax relief is expected to be announced soon.
