In order to promote legal migration, Italy will issue 10500 work visas for Pakistan’s skilled labour force, said Italian Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi.
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met his Italian counterpart, Matteo Piantedosi Duce, in Rome to discuss strengthened cooperation on internal security, controlling illegal immigration, and combating human trafficking. The meeting highlighted the growing partnership between Pakistan and Italy in tackling cross-border challenges.
During the talks, Piantedosi noted that Naqvi had recently proposed a visa exemption for holders of diplomatic passports. Both ministers emphasised the need for joint efforts to prevent illegal migration and ensure secure borders. They agreed that collaboration between law enforcement agencies would improve monitoring of migration routes and reduce human trafficking risks.
Mohsin Naqvi said Pakistan has successfully reduced illegal immigration through strict monitoring of airports and sea borders. He highlighted that coordinated strategies and proactive measures have helped the country manage migration more effectively. The Italian interior minister praised Pakistan’s efforts, describing the policies against drugs, illegal migration, and human trafficking as commendable.
He underlined that both countries will work together to promote legal migration and protect vulnerable populations from exploitation. Officials also discussed information sharing, joint training programs, and intelligence coordination to strengthen border security and prevent organized criminal networks from exploiting migration flows.
The meeting concluded with a commitment to continue regular consultations and expand cooperation in the areas of internal security, migration management, and anti-trafficking measures. Both ministers agreed that collaboration would not only benefit their countries but also contribute to regional stability.
This engagement signals Pakistan’s proactive approach in addressing migration and security challenges while building stronger international partnerships. With ongoing coordination, both nations aim to ensure safe and legal migration, while curbing illegal activities and enhancing overall border management.
