New anti-drone and cybercrime units approved in Punjab

Punjab has become the first province to establish the Provincial Intelligence Fusion and Threat Assessment Centre (PIFTAC).

During the visit, several key initiatives were approved to enhance law enforcement and public safety. Authorities confirmed the formation of an anti-drone unit for the first time in Punjab and the immediate establishment of a dedicated cybercrime cell. Province-wide continuous combing operations were also ordered to maintain law and order, while state-of-the-art digital scanners will be installed at all entry and exit points across the province.

In addition, the whistleblower system will be strengthened to prevent terrorism and criminal activities. A special monitoring dashboard has been introduced for deputy commissioners in all districts, ensuring efficient oversight and protection of citizens’ lives and property. These measures aim to enhance accountability and operational effectiveness across the province.

Furthermore, the chief minister directed the creation of an AI hub within PIFTAC to improve cybersecurity and intelligence capabilities. Emphasizing proactive governance, she instructed authorities to adopt a pre-emptive strategy against terrorism, focusing on preventing incidents rather than merely responding to them.

Maryam Nawaz reiterated the government’s commitment to making Punjab the safest province in the country. She highlighted that all available resources will be utilized to ensure public safety and secure communities across the province. Officials noted that the new systems and technological upgrades, combined with continuous field operations and monitoring, will strengthen law enforcement, reduce response times, and improve overall security management.

These initiatives reflect the provincial government’s focus on modernizing security infrastructure while prioritizing the safety and wellbeing of citizens. The visit and approved measures mark a significant step forward in Punjab’s efforts to combat terrorism, cybercrime, and organized criminal activity effectively.
