After the sudden demise of KP Chief Minister Azam Khan, Justice (Retd) Arshad Hussain Shah has been sworn in as the caretaker CM of KP. Governor of KP Haji Ghulam Ali administered the oath ceremony which was held at the Governor house.
The presence of IG of police, High Court Chief Justice of Peshawar Mohammad Ibrahim Khan, advocate general and several other high-profile individuals were also present for the oath ceremony at the Governor house.
Recently, the governor signed a summary of the appointment of the new CM of KP. This recent development came after CM Azam Khan suffered a fatal heart attack and passed away in a hospital on Saturday. He was appointed as the interim CM earlier in January this year after the dissolution of the cabinet by PTI.
Afterwards, Akram Khan Durrani and the former CM of KP Mehmood Khan held a meeting in which they consulted about the appointment of the next CM. Both the leaders agreed that Shah should be the next CM of KP and they finalised the summary and sent it to the Governor. Shah was already serving in the cabinet of KP under Azam Khan’s administration as a Law Minister. Prior to this, he was the Chief Justice of Gilgit from 2019-2022.
Shah to assist ECP in conducting elections
After taking the oath, Shah spoke to the press saying that he knows of the responsibility he has been bestowed with. He stated that he will assist ECP in conducting fair elections and all affairs of KP will be run in accordance with the law. Moreover, he stated that he will forge a new cabinet after he consults with the stakeholders.
PTI to not accept new CM
PTI leader of the province Zahid Khan Toru said that they don’t accept the new appointed CM of KP. Toru also stated that they would go to court if the appointment is finalised by Khan and Durani. He stated that such matters are to be resolved constitutionally. He further stated that the new CM will be a political one.
