Yahya Afridi has been appointed as the new Chief Justice of Pakistan after a lengthy session of the constitutional committee, which considered nine out of twelve candidates for the position. Afrid was junior-most judge in the list who played a significant role in various high-profile cases, including those related to reserved parliamentary seats.
He notably dissented in a key ruling on this issue, emphasizing his commitment to judicial independence. Originally from D.I. Khan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Afridi previously served as Chief Justice of the Peshawar High Court and is recognized for his extensive academic achievements, holding degrees from prestigious institutions such as Aitchison College and Jesus College, Cambridge.

His legal career, which began in the 1990s, includes various roles, including Advocate of the High Court and Partner at Afridi, Shah & Minallah. Afridi has also opted out of a committee formed to address the Supreme Court Practice and Procedure Ordinance 2024, raising questions about ongoing judicial reform discussions.
Throughout his career, he has been an advocate for judicial reforms and environmental justice, reflecting his dedication to the rule of law and human rights in Pakistan.
