Karachi police have imposed a complete ban on dumpers and water tankers in the city following a fatal traffic accident in Razzaqabad that claimed the life of a rickshaw driver and injured several others.
The accident occurred because the dumper involved did not have a tracker installed, resulting in the death of a rickshaw driver and injuries to several people. A van and a nearby shop were also damaged during the incident. Additionally, the DIG said that only those heavy vehicles will be allowed to operate which have trackers installed and have granted full access to the traffic police. He explained that although many dumpers and tankers already have trackers, their owners have not provided police access, which has created monitoring problems.
Furthermore, he said that even the exempted vehicles will only be allowed on the roads during their scheduled timings. Owners of heavy vehicles with trackers must contact the traffic police and formally hand over access so monitoring can be done in real time. He made it clear that no dumper or water tanker will now be permitted to run on Karachi roads without giving complete tracker access to the authorities. Therefore, police teams will inspect vehicles across the city, and any heavy vehicle found without a tracker will be immediately seized.
Through this move, the traffic department aims to prevent further accidents, improve road safety and ensure strict monitoring of heavy vehicles. The DIG emphasized that the new policy has been enforced for public safety, and now owners must cooperate to avoid stricter action.
