The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) carried out a major operation against a fraud cybercrime gang active near Maskan Chowrangi in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Karachi.
Authorities have confirmed that the gang deceived victims by claiming they would be provided visas or grocery deals on commission, which prompted the victims to pay their fees. Investigators revealed that the gang created multiple false bank accounts with stolen identities, including one related to an unsuspecting woman. The suspects extorted money disguised as visa processing fees and false grocery investments.
The cybercrime unit arrested six people involved in the scam. The arrested people include Mohammad Imran, Baas, and Faisal Zafar. Officials said the gang had been persistently committing the fraud by using innocent citizens’ identities to open accounts in which they would carry out illegal transactions. This operation is part of a larger initiative by Pakistan’s cybercrime authorities to dismantle criminal networks involved in digital fraud. Many of these organizations defraud individuals out of their hard-earned savings by offering fake investment or job opportunities.
Furthermore, specific NCCIA units will specialize in combating financial fraud and online child sex abuse across Pakistan. Officials stressed that the coordinated efforts of cybercrime units and provincial authorities will play a key role in protecting citizens from online scams in the future.
With this latest crackdown, authorities aim to warn cybercriminals that strict action will follow, while also assuring the public that stronger protections against digital fraud are being developed.
