Port city Karachi and parts of Sindh witnessed continuous rains while more showers are expected in coming days. Amid rain emergency, Deputy Commissioner Karachi Central District declared a holiday for government and private schools in Karachi on August 29, Thursday.
DC announced the closure as a precautionary measure to safeguard students amid extreme weather conditions in the country’s southwestern region.
Residents are advised to limit travel because of the rain forecast. In light of the persistent rainfall, provincial authorities have declared a rain emergency and have put strict safety measures in place.
Hyderabad also decided to close all schools tomorrow. Sindh Education Department has granted deputy commissioners (DCs) the authority to declare school holidays in their districts due to the current weather conditions. This directive follows the arrival of a significant monsoon system in the province, which empowers the DCs to make decisions on school closures after consulting with the provincial education department.
The Meteorological Office has reported that a deep depression located north of Gujrat (India) is expected to move towards eastern Sindh within the next 24 hours. This weather system is generating strong monsoon currents, particularly impacting the southern regions of the country. Furthermore, a westerly wave is expected to affect the northern parts of the country starting from the 29th.
