KARACHI – In a bet to overtake other cities in New Year Night Celebratory fireworks, the citizens of Karachi ended up wounding 35 people while 6 individuals were arrested for Aerial firing.
The Chief Police Officer of Karachi had already warned the residents and imposed a ban on aerial firing. Karachi’s CPO stated that individuals caught during aerial firing would be charged with attempted murder and detained in Jails.
However, that didn’t stop the residents and as soon as the clock ticked 12:00 am, Karachi became a warzone as the sound of bullets echoed through the city.
The night sky was filled with aerial bullets and fireworks as firecrackers roared the streets of Karachi.
The aerial bullets upon their descent ended up wounding dozens of people across the city, including women and children.
The women and children were immediately moved to Jinnah Post Medical Care and Dr Ruth Pfau Medical Hospital in Karachi. Some injured were moved to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital because most of the shootings took place in the Central District.
Most of the incidents were reported in Bahadurabad, Baldia Town, Clifton, Dalmia, Gulshan-e-Iqbal 13-D, Hussainabad, Keamari, Korangi, Liaquatabad C Area, Lines Area, Lyari, Malir, Mehmoodabad, Native Jetty Bridge, North Karachi, North Nazimabad, PIB Colony, Ranchore Line, Rizvia Society, Sea View, Shah Faisal Colony, and Native Jetty Bridge.
A child suffered injuries from aerial bullets in Korangi while four suspects were arrested in the nearest Keamari, Korangi and Police Colony.
The CPO had already warned the public due to the death of two individuals on August 14, 2023 last year.
