A 30-year-old man from Mardan, one of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s high-risk districts for dengue, has died from Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever, marking the province’s first dengue-related death of the year, according to an official health report.
According to the Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response System (IDSRS), the patient had tested positive for dengue five days before his death. He was first admitted to Mardan Medical Complex on September 30 but left against medical advice two days later. After receiving multiple dextrose drips at home, his condition deteriorated, and he was readmitted but could not survive.
Meanwhile, dengue cases continue to rise in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with 34 new infections reported in the last 24 hours. The total number of confirmed cases in the province has now reached 3,236. Among them, 57 patients remain hospitalised, while 2990 have recovered. The highest number of cases has been reported in Charsadda with 1,008, followed by Haripur, Mansehra, Peshawar, and Mardan.
Health teams have expressed concern over residents’ lack of cooperation in following preventive measures. Officials said that during inspections in Sufaid Dheri, mosquito larvae were found in nearly every household despite repeated awareness drives. To combat the growing threat, the provincial health department organised a free medical camp in Sufaid Dheri under the supervision of Dr. Shahid Yunis.
Over 650 people received medical checkups, dengue screenings, and vaccinations. Community awareness sessions were also held to educate people on mosquito control. Experts have urged residents to cover stored water containers, as stagnant water serves as a major breeding ground for mosquitoes.
